With sustainability challenges, a contemporary view of farmers goes beyond food production and considered them as agro-ecological system managers with services to water, soil, and biodiversity.

Our organic harvest is Certified Organic by CCPB, and Italian and international body for inspection and certification of agri-food products obtained in organic and eco friendly production. Organic farming involves agriculture that allows a balance between different elements of the ecosystem. It includes the avoidance of any synthetic chemical input.

An Overview of Our Organic Agricultural Approaches:

ecosystem balance

The great balance that our ecosystem achieved allows many little friends to help us, like precious ladybugs feeding on Aphids! Our farm is a haven for ladybugs and bees who find a safe home among our natural flora.

companion planting

The right mixture of flora is essential for an organic farm. Specific flowers among vegetables, for example, can enhance growth, beauty or flavor.

natural animal fertilizers

We use composted manure from goats that naturally graze in the neighboring mountains. We personally know the goat herders and the environment where their herd grazes.

green manure

Green manure is a crop that is planted during fall and then harvested early spring to be simply left in place in the land. For this year, wild clover occurring naturally and vetch (Vicia sativa - or what we call Baa2yi) planted in winter created an amazing colorful meadow under our fruit trees.

clean water source

We irrigate from Nahr El Asfour. The river water originates a few kilometers upstream of the farm from Qnat's Mar Challita's grotto. On its way to Ibrahim's farm, it passes limited traditional farmland and slightly-inhabited surroundings.

natural harvest protection

We use our ecosystem balance to provide natural predators to various pests. We also use soft products like soap, oil, and bacteria-based products to help us in protecting our crops. In addition to that, we use physical approaches like traps. You can see here a trap we use for the mediterranean fly Ceratitis capitata that is a nightmare to our apples and pears.

non-treated and non-genetically modified seeds

Our seeds are non-treated, and non-genetically modified. In fact, they are either from our organically certified sources or extracted from our own organic crops.
